Alyssa Makena

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Alyssa Makena is currently an undergraduate at Yale College double majoring in the History of Science, Medicine, & Public Health and Ethics, Politics, & Economics. Her research interests are primarily centered on sexual, menstrual, and reproductive health, with a specific focus on marginalized communities.

Alyssa serves as a research assistant for the Research Education Institute for Diverse Scholars (REIDS) Fellowship, where she is interested in qualitative research surrounding HIV/AIDS. She has also worked at the African American Policy Forum as a summer fellow where she conducted research on Critical Race Theory and was involved in the #SayHerName Campaign. She hopes to pursue a career in Global Health in order to address the health inequities facing developing countries
